Facebook subscriptions - to what extent are they visible to others?

Q. Now I've noticed that there are three 'levels' of subscription you can have. One is for only important updates, another is for most updates, and the other is for all updates. Mine is currently by default set to 'most updates' on all of my friends... If I adjust it to receive all updates, will this change be made visible to that person?

A. No, they will not know.

Is Facebook a liability when it comes to having a relationship?
Q. Photos or comments can be misleading and interpreted in many ways.. Do you think networking actually hurts more than it actually helps a relationship?

A. It depends on the two having a relationship and how trusting or trustworthy they are.If both sides trust each other there should be no problems.

I am starting a new job in 2 months. Can i put it on LinkedIn now, with future start date?

Q. I will leave my current job in a week, and will start a new job in 2 months, much better overall terms and position. Should i wait for 2 months until i update my Linked-In with the new job, or can i put an end date on the current job, add the new job, and put starting date in 2 months time?
Thanks

A. I would wait until you start the job. You don't want to jinx anything! Then you will also have more deals about your responsibilities to add to the description. You can however, put an end date for your current job on your profile once it ends.

Is it actually worth it to use Linkedin?
Q. I am skeptical but thinking of using Linkedin.
Have you experienced or know of an actual case where a person got a job because of Linkedin ?

Most of the professionals I know just have a profile and contacts but dont actually get anything out of it.

A. DON'T DO IT

I am still trying to get them to stop spamming my e-mail address. If you do it, I would make a new e-mail just for updates from them.

I have never gotten a job from linkedin and honestly they have a bad rep. I have gotten a few jobs actually from snagajob.com....so maybe try there?

How does facebook make money from people sending gifts?

Q. Like people who send photos and gifts like a virtual teddybear? Where is the money coming from?

A. Facebook users have the option to pay money for 'credits'. They can then exchange these credits for gifts or photos to their friends via Facebook. Credits can be used and earned on many Facebook applications and games.

Hope this helps :-)

How does facebook get money if signing up is free?
Q. When we use fb, we don't pay anything, so how does the facebook company get money and become rich?

A. It's all about Advertising and the revenue it brings in. No different to this site.

Everyone moans about it [personally it doesn't bother me] but what do you want?

A site that is free to use or one that you would have to pay a hefty subscription to use?

To give you some idea the amount of money it generates, I remember reading an article about ads on TV a few years back. Then it used to cost between £4 to 8,000 for a three minute slot depending on the time of day.

Also don't forget all advertising by a company is tax deductable! That's why we're all swamped with it.

How do you stop one of your twitter accounts from linking to Instagram?

Q. I have my Instagram account linked up with my main personal twitter account. However I also have a professional design account on twitter for my uni work, which also seems to link to my instagram account. I only want my instagram pictures going to my personal twitter, how do I stop them from going to my professional twitter account as well?

A. Go into general settings find Instagram, and it Gould give you an option wether to share to twitter. Turn it off

How long does it take for a new twitter account to appear in search results?
Q. I set up a fan page on twitter for the fab Emma Thompson called @TeamEmThompson I set it up yesterday morning (bout 30 hours ago!) yet it still does not appear in search results. It shows up if you search for the exact name of the page ie.TeamEmThompson, but typing Emma Thompson (which is what people will naturally search for) does not bring it up in the results. How long does it normally take before this happens?

A. A fresh page usually takes around 2 weeks to show up in search engine. If you over promote a new page, it will take months for Google knows if you are doing SEO the wrong way.

Is LinkedIn worth signing up for these days?

Q. Bearing in mind I'm a freelance web developer/designer and I'd be hoping to get more work out of it.

A. I believe it is. In your case, you want to network as much as possible. You can post updates, etc., and keep 'top of mind' for some of your contacts.

There's definitely no downside to using it for you.

why do people browse your linkedin profile as anonymous?
Q. why do people browse your linkedin profile as anonymous?

what is the logic behind it?

A. They may want to see if you are someone with whom they would like to connect, and then decide that they do not.
